Big Changes to Karnataka’s Gruha Lakshmi Scheme: What You Need to Know!

The Karnataka government is taking decisive steps to ensure that the benefits of the popular Gruha Lakshmi scheme reach only those who truly need them.

If you or your family members are beneficiaries, there are some important updates you should be aware of to ensure your continued eligibility.

Why the Change?

The government’s primary goal is transparency and accuracy. Over the past few years, the administration has been working hard to filter out fake beneficiaries—including those who were ineligible due to income tax payments, government employment, or who were deceased. To date, approximately 4.30 lakh ineligible individuals have already been removed from the beneficiary list to protect the integrity of the program.

What’s New?

To further streamline the process, the government is introducing stricter guidelines. Here are the key requirements moving forward:

  • Voter ID is Now Mandatory: The head of the family must possess a valid Voter ID that matches their details on the ration card. The government plans to use the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to cross-verify beneficiary data. If an individual’s name is removed from the voter list, they will naturally become ineligible for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme.
  • Savings Account Requirement: Beneficiaries must now have a personal savings account. Please note that joint accounts are not being considered for the scheme under the new guidelines.
  • Preventing Dual Benefits: A major focus of these updates is to ensure that individuals residing in other states but claiming benefits in Karnataka—especially in major cities like Bengaluru—are identified and filtered out. The government is firm that only genuine residents and voters of Karnataka should receive the benefits of the guarantee schemes.

Important Notice for Beneficiaries

If you find that your name has been excluded due to technical reasons despite being eligible, do not worry! Officials have assured that genuine beneficiaries will not lose out. You can contact the relevant department to submit your documents for re-verification.

The government is committed to making sure that every rupee allocated for this scheme serves its intended purpose—supporting the women who are the heads of families in our state. Stay updated, keep your documents ready, and ensure your details are accurate to keep your benefits seamless.

Note: The proposed guidelines are currently being prepared for the cabinet, and final details will be announced once approved.
